Sex within Politics

Throughout history there has been many different forms of government put over mankind.  From King David to President Bill Clinton, there have been many leaders in history, what do many of them have in common?  They all have sex that tainted who they were.  This is an article about some of the most influential people in history, and their encounters with sexual acts.
The first leader that I will cover is one that every person who studies the Bible should know, his name was David, and he was the king appointed by God to lead the Israeli people.  Now though he was the man chosen by God, he was just a man.  Now David fell for a woman named Bathsheba, he loved her actually, but there was a catch, she was married.  Now David being the king had to get what he wanted so he sent Joab, Bathsheba’s husband, and put him on the front line for the war effort that was underway at the time.  Now David knew that Joab would end up being killed.  While Joab was out fighting David went and went to have sex with Bathsheba, when the news came of Joab’s death, David acted as a shoulder to cry on so to speak.  Now just in case you haven’t caught on David sent a man out to be killed just so he could get in a girls pants.  This did not go without punishment though, David’s son through Bathsheba was deemed the one by God to rebel against the king.  This eventually came to pass, and thus creating much strife in David’s family.
Now we go from a case where there was a negative outcome from sexual interactions, to a relatively positive outcome.  Cleopatra was the queen of Egypt during the height of the Roman Empire.  When most people think of Cleopatra, they think of her sexual relations with some of Rome’s top officials.  Cleopatra had close sexual relations with Julius Caesar and Marcus Antonius.[1]  The main reason she was doing these acts with these men is because she wanted her country to prosper and what better way than to sleep with the leaders of the largest empire in the world?  She had four children one son through Caesar and one through Antonius.  Both of these children did not make it to adulthood.[2]  As I said earlier, her main goal was to make sure Egypt was a powerful nation, and in the end, after Caesar was assassinated, and Rome fell Marcus Antonius ended up relying on Cleopatra and her money to survive.[3]  I’d say that that is the perfect turn of the tables.  And a pretty obvious sign that she succeeded at this and a main part of this was her relations with Caesar and Antonius.
Our last person who goes down in history due to their sexual endeavors is President Bill Clinton.  You probably already know about the story how he slept with Monica Lewinsky and somehow this got leaked to the general public, and things went downhill from there.  But instead of just coming out and saying hey I did do something wrong and I apologize for it we got the infamous “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” with a reassuring finger shake to go with it.  Later the evidence was just too much and Clinton came back and said that he indeed had inappropriate relations with her, and he got some bad backlash after this.   In fact he was impeached, but he was not removed from office.  And in the end he recovered somewhat but this is the main thing he will go down remembered for.
After we see all of these people we can see that even our Politicians are involved with inappropriate sexual acts.  Possibly even more than the average person.  Sex is a key part of history, and even if people don’t like it, it will always be around taint some Politicians history.
