Sex within Politics

Throughout history there has been many different forms of government put over mankind.  From King David to President Bill Clinton, there have been many leaders in history, what do many of them have in common?  They all have sex that tainted who they were.  This is an article about some of the most influential people in history, and their encounters with sexual acts.
The first leader that I will cover is one that every person who studies the Bible should know, his name was David, and he was the king appointed by God to lead the Israeli people.  Now though he was the man chosen by God, he was just a man.  Now David fell for a woman named Bathsheba, he loved her actually, but there was a catch, she was married.  Now David being the king had to get what he wanted so he sent Joab, Bathsheba’s husband, and put him on the front line for the war effort that was underway at the time.  Now David knew that Joab would end up being killed.  While Joab was out fighting David went and went to have sex with Bathsheba, when the news came of Joab’s death, David acted as a shoulder to cry on so to speak.  Now just in case you haven’t caught on David sent a man out to be killed just so he could get in a girls pants.  This did not go without punishment though, David’s son through Bathsheba was deemed the one by God to rebel against the king.  This eventually came to pass, and thus creating much strife in David’s family.
Now we go from a case where there was a negative outcome from sexual interactions, to a relatively positive outcome.  Cleopatra was the queen of Egypt during the height of the Roman Empire.  When most people think of Cleopatra, they think of her sexual relations with some of Rome’s top officials.  Cleopatra had close sexual relations with Julius Caesar and Marcus Antonius.[1]  The main reason she was doing these acts with these men is because she wanted her country to prosper and what better way than to sleep with the leaders of the largest empire in the world?  She had four children one son through Caesar and one through Antonius.  Both of these children did not make it to adulthood.[2]  As I said earlier, her main goal was to make sure Egypt was a powerful nation, and in the end, after Caesar was assassinated, and Rome fell Marcus Antonius ended up relying on Cleopatra and her money to survive.[3]  I’d say that that is the perfect turn of the tables.  And a pretty obvious sign that she succeeded at this and a main part of this was her relations with Caesar and Antonius.
Our last person who goes down in history due to their sexual endeavors is President Bill Clinton.  You probably already know about the story how he slept with Monica Lewinsky and somehow this got leaked to the general public, and things went downhill from there.  But instead of just coming out and saying hey I did do something wrong and I apologize for it we got the infamous “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” with a reassuring finger shake to go with it.  Later the evidence was just too much and Clinton came back and said that he indeed had inappropriate relations with her, and he got some bad backlash after this.   In fact he was impeached, but he was not removed from office.  And in the end he recovered somewhat but this is the main thing he will go down remembered for.
After we see all of these people we can see that even our Politicians are involved with inappropriate sexual acts.  Possibly even more than the average person.  Sex is a key part of history, and even if people don’t like it, it will always be around taint some Politicians history.

Oral Sex Is Illegal In North Carolina?

Oral Sex is Illegal in North Carolina?

By: Madison Anderson

After researching some of North Carolina’s laws I am shocked but at the same time I am not to what I have found. For example a male and female cannot occupy the same hotel room for immoral purposes and claim to be husband and wife! You can actually be charges with a class 2 misdemeanor. While being in this course, History of Sexuality in America, we can assume that these laws have been in place since North Carolina was deemed a state. These laws can date back for hundreds of years and these laws have not been ratified. Though they are still laws they are not necessarily enforced. We know puritans were experimenting with their sexuality but reality is the older white male politicians placed huge emphasis on sex being used for procreation only.

Another law that is in exact correlation with the most recent information given in class is the law 14-190.5. This law basically states that no one can photograph or create a film of them with indecent exposure. This correlates to Playboy magazine and Hugh Heffner fighting the post office over the Comstock Law which stated that obscene materials cannot be sent through the mail. Though these laws may not be directly enforced they do exist and they still place a stigma on sex and sexuality.

Law 14-177 basically states that you cannot commit any crimes against man kind or with animals and this would include oral sex, anal sex, and vaginal sex out of the missionary position. It also states that anyone who is caught doing so will be charged with a class one felony. This is very weird to think that this law has not been repealed in courts yet. Individuals who have not had this course or a course in relation to this one would not understand why that law exist. However we do. Referring to the pendulum that Mrs. Moore refers to about the changes in time from liberal to conservative we can assume these laws were placed during a conservative time hundreds of years ago. Now that we are more socially excepting of sex this law seems ridiculous. It has effect those today though because you cannot purchase dental dams. Therefor can spread sexually transmitted infections. Whereas if we had the ability to purchase these goods because the law was repealed the rate of sexually transmitted infections could decrease significantly.[1]

Sex in the 1960's

Sex in the 1960’s
By Marcus Beasley
The 1960’s was a time period when a lot of things in America was happening that had to do with sex. Hugh Hefner was a household name by the 1960’s. Hugh Hefner was the guy who created Playboy Magazine and he is very successful. The magazine was aimed at men that did not want to settle down and thought that getting married was a trap financially and that you should spend your money for yourself. During the mid-60’s Hefner had created an empire for himself. He had hundreds of millions of dollars, a skyscraper, private jet, and a mansion on the gold coast of Chicago.[1] Hefner is still alive today and he is still doing what he always has done. The playboy name is one of the most common names when it comes to magazines aimed toward men featuring naked women. Pretty much everybody knew what a playboy magazine is even if you have never seen one. You can thank Hefner for creating such a name that everyone knows exactly what it is even if you have never viewed a playboy magazine.
The pill was an invention that was made in the 60’s and has forever had an effect on sex. In 1960, Enovid, was the very first birth control pill that was available to the public.[2] The pill is one of the main forms of birth control used today because of how easy it is to use and how effective it is. The reason that the pill was so successful was because it is a reliable form of birth control as well as controlled by the woman herself. She can be the only person that knows that she is taking the pill if she wants to.[3]
The late 60’s was all about hippies. Hippies were very free and believed in peace and love. San Francisco was a place where many of the hippies would go and they were called flower children by the government. The intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets was a place where hippies would go. The summer of 1967 was the year that many hippies went to the famous intersection and initiated a cultural and political shift.[4] Woodstock was a giant rock festival that many hippies attended in 1969. The Woodstock festival was really unsanitary and there. There were huge traffic jams and shortages of necessities such as food, water, and medical facilities. Drugs were everywhere at Woodstock and many of the 80 arrests were related to LSD, heroin and amphetamines. Marijuana was a drug that many of the people there used, and people were not arrested for it.[5]
